2018年10月9日晚,外院哲学角活动又一次在图书馆一楼大厅举行。本次哲学角共有10人参加,并荣幸地请到了David和Shawn老师。
在新成员进行自我介绍之后,Shawn向到场的各位征集本次讨论的主题。一位同学首先提出了中西文学作品在翻译过程中差异的话题。Shawn就此话题进行了提问,在场的同学都发表了自己的见解。在讨论过程中Shawn举出了很多有趣的例子,各位参与者都很好地参与其中,活动渐入佳境。由此话题出发,大家又提出了熟悉一国文化对翻译该国语言的重要性这一问题。在一番讨论后,Shawn和David又根据他们来到中国后的一些体验提出了中西文化差异的现象,推动本次讨论进入高潮。之后大家又讨论了一些如音乐算不算语言等发散性问题,在此过程中对“中西文学作品在翻译过程中的差异”这一问题的答案也越来越清晰。在讨论的尾声,Shawn为大家推荐了一些哲学书籍。带着满满的收获,所有参加的同学离开了图书馆。
本次哲学角活动举行得很成功,相信之后的哲学角活动也会更加精彩。

On the evening of October 9, 2018, the philosophy corner was again held in the first floor of the library. A total of 10 people participated in this activity, and it was a pleasure to have David and Shawn as tutors.
After the new members introducing themselves, Shawn asked everyone to present a topic for the discussion. A student first raised the topic of the differences between Chinese and Western literary works in the process of translation. Shawn put forward a series of detailed questions on this topic. In the process of the discussion, Shawn gave a lot of interesting examples and the students participated well . The atmosphere was getting better and better.
From this topic, the importance of familiarity with a nation’s culture for translation of its language has been raised. After discussing for a while, Shawn and David raised the issue of cultural differences between China and the West according to their own experiences living in China, which pushed the discussion to a climax.
Then they discussed some divergent questions such as whether music is a language, and the answers to the topic “The differences between Chinese and Western literary works in the process of translation” were becoming clearer and clearer during the process. At the end of the discussion, Shawn recommended some books on philosophy. With a great harvest, the participants left the library.
The philosophy corner was successfully held this time. It’s believed that the philosophy corners will be more exciting in the future.
