The Opening Ceremony of 2013

The opening ceremony of 2013, hosted by Ms. Zhang Minli, was held at LiYunB408 at 10 a.m. on September 15. Doctor and professor Tao Wenhao, dean of the School of Foreign Languages, associate professor Xie Qingli, deputy dean of the School, associate professor Xie Wenting, deputy dean of the School, Chinese and overseas teachers and freshmen attended the ceremony.
The opening ceremony started with the national anthem and Dean Professor Tao Wenhao addressed this ceremony. First, Professor Tao made a brief introduction of the degree programs and the teaching staff of SFL. Then he referenced three films—To the Youth, the Apple of My EyeandTiny Times,which associate with dream and youth, to express his expectations to the freshmen. Dean Tao said, he hope all the students can take “Love, Knowledge, Morality and Integrity” as their guidance and fight for their dream, youth and life in the next 4 years.
Ms. Liao Linfang, on behalf of Chinese teachers, gave some advice to the freshmen and the most important was that destiny is written by working hard. Dr. Richard Stopford, on behalf of overseas English-speaking teachers, shared his experience of studying foreign language with audience. As for the representative of the newly-employed teachers of Japanese, Ms. Kayoko, compared life as a diamond and said no one can be a success without difficulties.
Then three seniors, Tian Nianping, Cao yan and Cheng Xiaoxiao respectively made a speech in English, Japanese and French. They encouraged audiences to learn language with passion and hope. And Yang Rulin, the freshman of the postgraduates and Huang Zhichong in the name of the whole freshmen, gave a speech to audience. Both of them had a high expectation for the life on this campus.
The end of the ceremony is also a beginning of the new life. May the joy be with them throughout the following four academic years.
