题目：Racing: an overview of motorsports worldwide and in Zhuhai

Joe was exposed to motorsports at very young age due to his father’s activity in drag racing at the time and his close proximity to one of the best known dirt tract circuits of the 1960s & ‘70s era, Ascot Race Park, where many of his childhood heroes learned their race craft, such as Mario Andretti, Al and Bobby Unser and A.J. Foyt. Also in the Los Angeles area were such classic road racing venues as Riverside Raceway, Willow Springs Raceway and the Long Beach Grand Prix.

In the mid-1980s he worked as a corner marshall for the Porsche Owner’s Club of Southern California and competed in two Time Trial events in his Porsche 924, finishing 2nd once and winning another. But he found the costs of competing prohibitive and later decided to move to Japan at the age of 25. At the age of 33 while still in Japan a friend of his convinced him to get back on the track in karts. He raced for 6 and a half years accumulating 20 wins and 4 championships. Along the way he met and occasionally became friends with a few of the biggest names in Formula 1 and MotoGP, including Jacques Villaneuve, Michael Schumacher, Rubens Barichello, Hiroshi Aoyama, Shinya Nakano, Kimi Raikonen, Jean Alesi, David Coulthard, Eddie Irvine, Ukyo Katayama and Norrick Abe among others. He also earned his FIA racing ‘A’ licences in Japan for both karts and cars. Cashing in on his experience and reputation in the kating world in 2007 he spent several months in California working as a kart racing coach for a driver that went on to achieve multiple championships and national ranking in the Rotax series.

Having spent over 20 years in Japan, South Korea, Thailand and China he came to BNUZ to teach and be near South China’s motorsports hub, Zhuhai International Circuit. He has developed strong ties with 2 of the racing teams here, namely Track Torque and PS Racing where he has helped out as pit crew and model manager.

Now at the age of 45 he has adopted a new hobby: motorcycle racing. He has recently begun racing Kayo MiniGP bikes at Golden Apple Kart Circuit on QiAo Dao.

This lecture will give an overview of the various types of motorsports and then focus more directly on the types of motorsports that can be accessed here at Zhuhai International Circuit and nearby venues. Joe will share photos and short videos of international racing along with some in-car footage of the recent Pan Delta Super Racing Festival at Zhuhai International Circuit. He will also include some discussion of entry-level racing available to anyone here in the Pearl River Delta and the progression from there all the way to F1 or MotoGP.
