Hearing Voice from Teaching Front

A survey meeting of teaching representatives of various ages from different majors was held by the School of Foreign Languages (SFL) on the morning of April 23rd, intending to hear the voices of the teachers, and to have an in-depth discussion about the whole concerned reforms of teaching and the scientific research.

At the beginning, a piece of good news was announced by Dean Tao that the curriculum reform at provincial level for the English majors has gained all votes in the Innovation Program Conference on April 22nd. “In English teaching, teachers should have a habit of thinking and have a certain ‘adventurous’ spirit like innovation, boldness, and initialization. Presently, the teaching achievements in our school are outstanding, however, our scientific research is at a disadvantage. Through this meeting, I hope all of you could give some constructive comments and suggestions to the development of our school.” Dean Tao said.

In the meeting, teachers agreed universally that College English teaching and reform have achieved expectedly, which is rather rare in our country. Located in the Pearl River Delta and close to Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan, our university has given supportive policy to the School in the reform. At the same time, the SFL owns a team of well-known and learned teaching staff with large numbers of overseas teachers and young and pioneering teachers. All of these advantageous conditions laid the foundation for the reform of our School and the huge sense of imperative reform was faced by the English Majors. Teachers also showed the growth of pressures from the scientific research. The representatives of senior teacher encouraged young teachers to conduct the scientific research and to apply the school projects, and suggested their work, study and life should be well arranged. Senior teachers also encouraged them to learn to think and to be skilled in summarizing and note-taking.

Other widely concerned topics were also heatedly discussed at the meeting. Speaking out innermost thoughts freely, teachers have come up some constructive suggestions to the development of SFL. The reform of SFL to some extent is benefit from the School leaders’ prospective development strategy and all teachers’ wholehearted support. Reform is everlasting and essential to the development of our school. Through this activity of the Mass Line of the Party, the SFL hopes to have a further understanding of needs for reform from the front line of teaching, and seizes every opportunity to take our School to a new level.
