The first Portuguese class for teachers was offered by Professor Luisa Carvalho from the School of Foreign Languages in Room C311 of Leyu Building at 8:00 a.m. on September 19th, 2011. Professor Luisa Carvalho owns a PhD in Portuguese Literature and has rich experience in higher education. The distinguished feature is that the students in the class are teachers from different schools in our university.
First of all, Professor Luisa Carvalho guided the teachers into the world of Portuguese by providing them with a plenty of Portuguese names to choose from. She taught some simple expressions in daily life, such as “my name is …” and “what is your name?” She also organized games among the teachers to help them to practice those expressions. By participating in the games, the teachers loved the beautiful pronunciation of Portuguese and enjoyed learning it. At last, the Professor briefly introduced the pronunciation of Portuguese alphabet and grammar use. The whole class was brimmed with passion and curiosity of the teachers, who just started their journey of learning Portuguese.
The first Portuguese class ended successfully. Portuguese is the new elective course in our school, aiming at broadening both teachers and students'' horizon and enlarging their knowledge of western culture. Learning Portuguese is also an effective way to increase their competitiveness, for the frequent communication between Zhuhai and Macau.
