At 7:00 P.M. on May 19,Mr. Tim Musgrave from the Faculty of Foreign Languages held the weekly Movies Nights in Liyun Building Room B207. The movie showed was ‘Alien’. The different point was that it was a thrilling science fiction movie which brought shock and contemplation for students.
At the beginning, the slowly push lens and the light music created a tense atmosphere that made students nervous and excited. With the development of the plots, the atmosphere was getting more and more tense and students screamed now and then. This movie is about a commercial towing vehicle with 20 million tons of mineral ore. The crew receive unknown signals when they return to earth, so they change route to inquire aliens. On an unknown planet, one of the crew is attacked and attached by an alien. In order to save his life, the alien is taken to the spaceship together, but this creature has strong adaptability and aggressivity and it kills the crew one by one. However, the company just wants to take the alien to earth for researches regardless of lives of humans. At last, the only survivor explodes the spaceship and drives the alien to space.
An idea mentioned in this movie that only the strong survive without conscience and morality makes people angry and contemplate. Nowadays, humans are so eager to develop science and technology that they forget the humanity. Is it worthy of developing science and technology at the cost of humanity and morality? One student said that human civilization will be ruined by ourselves if we abandon the humanity and morality.
