教授，博士生导师，任教于北京师范大学外文学院。1946年1月5日生于广州郊区一个贫农家庭。1964-1970年在暨南大学外语系（英语专业）读书。1970-1978年在广州的中学教英语。1978年考入中国社会科学院语言研究所，师从吕叔湘先生。1981年毕业，获得文学硕士学位，留在中国社会科学院研究生院任英语讲师。1983-1984年在美国洛杉矶大学英语系作访问学者。1986年起在北京师范大学外语系工作。1995年升为教授。1996年起任博士生导师。2002年任北京师范大学外国语言文学学院副院长。

他主要从事语用学、语法学、语义学、语篇学、音系学、历史语言学等研究，也有个别从事语言教学的宏观研究。

Zhou Liuxi, Professor and supervisor of PhD candidates, works in the School of Foreign Languages and Literatures, Beijing Normal University. He was born into a poor family in the Guangzhou suburbs on 5 January 1946. He pursued his BA studies as an English major in the Department of Foreign Languages, Jinan University from 1964 to 1970. After his graduation he worked as an English teacher in a high school in Guangzhou from 1970 to 1978. In 1978 he went to read under Professor Lu Shuxiang for MA in the Language Institute, Academy of Social Sciences of China. In 1981 he obtained his MA and worked as an English teacher in the Graduate Institute, Academy of Social Sciences of China since then. He was a visiting scholar in the English Department of University of Los Angeles from 1983 to 1984. He began to work in the Department of Foreign Languages, Beijing Normal Univerity in 1986 and was promoted to be professor in 1995. He began to supervise PhD candidates in 1996. In 2002 he became vice dean of the School of Foreign Languages and Literatures, Beijing Normal University.

His research areas are mainly of pragmatics, grammar, semantics, discourse analysis, phonology, historical linguistics and theories of langauge teaching.
